The cost to homeowners is modest and predictable: $11.50 a year for every $100,000 of home value. For Denver's median home, valued at $624,800, that comes to about $72 a year — to keep our teachers in the classroom and our students supported.

First, every DPS educator and support staff member will receive a pay increase of $1,750 a year, helping the district offer the most competitive salaries of any school system in the Denver metro area. Colorado already struggles to recruit and retain qualified teachers, and Denver competes with surrounding districts for the same pool of talent. Without competitive pay, experienced teachers leave for other districts, and students pay the price through constant turnover and larger class sizes. This investment helps DPS keep effective educators in the classroom and attract new talent to Denver schools.

Second, the MLO dedicates $4 million annually to expand career and technical education across DPS high schools. Not every student wants a four-year degree, and this funding builds real pathways into skilled trades, healthcare, technology, and other in-demand fields, so graduates leave DPS ready for a stable, well-paying career close to home.

Third, $5 million a year is directed toward student well-being and support for students with special needs. Youth mental health has been declared a public health emergency, and this funding lets DPS hire more school counselors and mental health professionals. It also funds additional trained staff dedicated to students with disabilities, so every child gets the support they need to succeed.
